This can either be in the form of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (brownish marks) or erythema (reddish marks).
What is left behind is acne scars which are characterised by uneven and pitted skin. Acne scars, if left untreated typically does not improve much on its own.

In most instances, a single type of acne scar treatment may not be the most effective. Dr. Kellyn Shiau uses a combination of different, specialised acne scar treatment modalities that will help in smoothening the skin texture and improve the appearance of acne scars. Whether you’re looking for laser treatments or some other form of acne scar removal solutions in Singapore, we have you covered.
One of the most common solutions is the use of acne scar laser treatments. Fractional resurfacing laser is a scientifically-proven treatment method for acne scars. This laser treatment for acne scars in Singapore involves ablative laser that ablates tiny pin-point areas of the skin surface in a grid-like pattern. The skin in between the treated areas acts as a reservoir of healthy tissue to promote rapid healing with minimal down time.
The Edge Fractional laser beam delivers deep columns of treatment into the skin. This causes a reaction that leads to collagen remodeling and regeneration. The healing process repairs acne scars, wrinkles and fine lines. A topical numbing cream is first applied to the acne scar area that needs treatment. This makes the procedure more comfortable for you.
Each Edge Fractional laser session takes approximately 10-15 minutes. A slight tingling sensation and mild redness may be noted after this laser treatment for acne scars. Scabbing may occur after the second or third day and usually peels off in about five to seven days to reveal new, fresh skin.
The new skin that emerges after a week looks smoother, tighter, clearer and fresher*.
The results of this acne scar treatment may continue to improve over the span of 3 to 6 months and are efficient after several sessions*.
A series of 5-10 Fractional CO2 treatments a month apart can be done.
Certain types of acne scars and back acne (bacne), such as ice pick scars, respond easier to chemical peels. The chemical peel solution is able to target these scars that are harder to reach compared to other treatment modalities.
Chemical peels reconstruct the acne scars by causing a local inflammatory reaction, leading to the formation of new collagen fibres. This is usually associated with slight redness of the skin and some skin peeling for a few days.
This treatment involves fractional radio frequency micro-needling that helps in reinvigorating the skin. The insulated micro-needles treat the targeted area through rapid penetration of the skin without causing extensive damage to the top layer.
At the targeted depth within the skin, it emits a high-tension radio frequency pulse to stimulate the formation of new collagen. This acne scar removal procedure takes about 30 minutes. Mild redness of the skin will be noted for the 2-3 days after treatment.

For hypertrophic or keloid scars, keloid removal injections directly into the scar will help to flatten it.
Depending on the severity of the scar, between one to four sessions may be required every 3-4 weeks.
Subcision involves the physical separation of the underlying acne scar tissue with a needle. This disrupts the scar tissue under the skin and helps in remodeling of the scars. As some bleeding can occur with this acne scar removal treatment, temporary bruising and needle marks can be expected.
As a quick fix, soft dermal fillers can be injected directly into the acne scars. This helps in acne scar removal, reduces the depth of the acne scar and makes it smoother. The action of injecting filler into the acne scar also acts like subcision, breaking up the scar tissue within the skin before depositing the acne scar filler.
