Dealing with acne can be challenging. At our clinic, we offer personalised acne treatment plans designed to address individual skin concerns.

We start with a detailed skin analysis to identify the underlying issues. Then, we create a custom treatment plan that may include skincare products, oral or topical acne medications, and aesthetic procedures that might include laser treatments.

We closely monitor your progress and adjust your plan as needed to improve your skin condition.

Our Acne Treatment Options

At Lux Medical Aesthetic Clinic, we offer options to manage and reduce acne breakouts, creating treatment plans tailored to each individual’s skin.

Topical Treatments

Our topical treatments, such as acne creams and gels, aim to reduce inflammation, target bacteria, and promote skin cell turnover. These treatments often contain benzoyl peroxide, retinoids, and topical antibiotics. Regular application can help manage existing acne and prevent new breakouts.

Laser and Light Therapies

Our laser treatments and light therapies target acne by penetrating the skin to reduce bacteria and inflammation.

This acne treatment protocol combines Carbon laser treatment with IPL and Hydrafacial to cleanse the skin, target bacteria, and reduce inflammation.

Oral Medication

For those with moderate to severe acne, oral medications can be effective. Oral antibiotics help reduce bacteria and inflammation from within, while hormonal treatments such as birth control pills can balance hormone levels contributing to acne. These medications offer a systemic approach to managing acne. For patients with nodulocystic acne, oral isotretinoin tablets may be considered. Low-dose oral isotretinoin can also be used to reduce oily skin.

Extraction Procedures

Manual extraction procedures can remove stubborn blackheads and whiteheads that don’t respond to other treatments. We use specialised tools to gently and hygienically extract these commedones.

We at Lux Medical Aesthetic Clinic are committed to providing personalised plans that address your specific skin concerns.

Customised Treatment Plans

One size does not fit all when it comes to treating acne. Our approach centres around personalised treatment plans. These plans are developed based on individual skin types and the severity of acne, ensuring each patient receives a suitable treatment.

Initial Consultation and Skin Assessment

A comprehensive skin assessment is performed to determine the specific type of acne and any underlying skin conditions. Our doctor will carefully examine your skin, discuss your skincare routine, lifestyle, dietary habits, medical history, and listen to your concerns and goals.

This thorough evaluation allows us to craft a tailored treatment strategy that aligns with your unique needs.

Follow-up Care and Adjustments

Successful acne treatment requires continuous care and evaluation.

We are committed to supporting you throughout your treatment. If needed, we will make adjustments to optimise your treatment plan. Our ongoing support helps us address any emerging issues promptly and fine-tune the approach.

Who Can Benefit from Our Acne Treatments?

Teenagers

Teenagers Adolescence is a time when hormonal changes often trigger acne breakouts. Our treatments are designed for teenagers struggling with breakouts, providing care that aims to address the underlying causes

Adults

Adult Acne isn’t just a teenage problem; many adults also experience persistent or late-onset acne. Our specialised treatments for adult acne take into consideration the different skin challenges that can arise with age, such as increased sensitivity or dryness.

What to Expect During Treatment

Initial Consultation

During consultation, our doctor will assess your skin type, identify the causes of your acne, and discuss any concerns you may have. This collaborative process involves developing a personalised treatment plan tailored specifically to your needs.

Depending on your preference and skin condition, a combination of topical, oral medications and/or laser treatments may be recommended

The Acne Clear Laser treatment program at Lux Medical Aesthetic Clinic include: Carbon laser treatment, IPL & Hydrafacial

Steps Involved in our Acne clear treatment:

  1. Cleansing: Each session begins with cleansing the skin to remove any makeup, dirt, or excess oil.
  2. Application of numbing cream: Carbon laser is generally a comfortable procedure. Light numbing cream is applied to ensure greater comfort.
  3. Application of carbon lotion on the skin and carbon laser treatment: A layer of carbon lotion is applied on the skin. This helps to direct the laser beams to the surface of the skin to help reduce bacteria on the skin surface.  The carbon laser treatment helps to manage acne and reduce some hyperpigmentation caused by acne.
  4. IPL: Specific IPL acne treatment will help reduce acne on the skin further. Our IPL acne treatment kills acne- causing bacteria, reduces inflammation and post-acne PIH marks. It can also improve the skin’s radiance and produce an after treatment glow*.
  5. Gold toning laser: Gold toning laser can be added on to treat redness in the skin. This is common with acne and rosacea. Gold toning lasers selectively targets haemoglobin to seal up excess blood vessels to reduce redness and inflammation.
  6. Hydrafacial: Hydrafacial uses specially formulated serums to unclog pores and to deep cleanse the skin. This reduces the amount of clogged sebum and make up products that have not been properly removed from the skin.
  7. Moisturiser and Sunscreen Application: The session concludes with a moisturiser and sunscreen to protect your skin.

Duration of Each Session:

Treatment sessions last between 45 – 60 minutes, depending on the treatment being administered. More advanced procedures may require slightly longer durations to ensure precision and efficacy.

The frequency of your treatment sessions will also vary based on your plan. Some may require biweekly visits, while others might be scheduled monthly visits.

What to Expect After Treatment

Most of our acne treatments require minimal to no downtime, allowing you to return to your activities almost immediately. While some redness or mild irritation may be present, these effects are usually temporary and subside within a few hours to a couple of days.

Timeline for Visible Results:

The timeline for visible results varies among individuals. Many clients may notice improvements in their skin within 2 to 4 sessions of consistent treatment. Achieving clear skin is a gradual process, and patience is important as your skin continues to improve over time.

For optimal results, long-term adherence to the recommended treatment plan and skincare routine is essential. Many clients observe significant reductions in acne and improvements in  overall skin texture within 8 to 12 weeks.

Tips for Optimising Results:

  • Follow a consistent skincare routine as recommended by our doctor. This typically involves using a gentle cleanser or a cleanser with AHA, a prescribed topical treatment product that can include antibiotic creams or retinol gels, an oil-free acne-targeted moisturiser, and sunscreen.
  • Overwashing your face can strip the natural oils of the skin, which increases oil production and can worsen acne. Stick to cleansing twice daily.
  • Incorporate fruits, vegetables, proteins, and whole grains in your meal. Avoid high-glycemic foods and dairy products, which can sometimes exacerbate acne.
  • Aim to drink at least eight glasses of water a day to help flush out toxins and maintain skin elasticity.
  • Practice yoga, meditation, or regular exercise to keep stress levels in check.
  • Ensure you get enough hours of quality sleep every night for skin repair and rejuvenation.

Acne Treatment FAQs

The costs of professional acne treatments vary depending on several factors such as the severity of the acne, the number of sessions required, prescribed medications, and the clinic’s location. Topical prescriptions may be relatively affordable, while laser therapy or chemical peels can be more costly. Consult with a medical professional to get a detailed cost estimate tailored to your specific needs.

Most acne treatments are generally safe, but side effects can occur. These may include skin redness, irritation, and dryness. More invasive treatments like chemical peels or laser therapy may result in temporary swelling or changes in skin pigmentation.

The timeframe for seeing results from acne treatments varies. Topical treatments and oral medications may start showing improvements within 4 to 6 weeks, while more intensive treatments like laser therapy may offer quicker results. However, complete clearance of acne typically takes several months, and consistent treatment is essential.

While some natural or home remedies may offer mild benefits, they are generally not as effective as medically approved treatments because they may not address the root cause of acne.

Foods high in sugar, protein and dairy may cause severe acne breakouts in certain individuals.

Yes, many acne treatments can be safely combined with other skincare products. However, it is crucial to follow your doctor’s advice, as some combinations can cause irritation or reduce the effectiveness of the treatment.

It is generally safe to undergo certain acne treatments during pregnancy, but it is crucial to choose the right treatments and consult with a healthcare professional. Some acne treatments, particularly oral medications like isotretinoin, are not safe during pregnancy.

If your acne doesn’t improve with initial treatments, it’s important to revisit your dermatologist. They may recommend alternative therapies, such as stronger or different types of medications, combination treatments, or lifestyle changes.

Preventing acne scars involves treating acne early and avoiding picking or squeezing pimples. Using recommended topical treatments that promote healing and prevent inflammatory acne can also help.

The frequency of follow-up appointments depends on the severity of your acne and the type of treatment. Initially, you may need to see your doctor every 2 to 4 weeks to monitor treatment progress and make any necessary adjustments. Once your acne is under control, follow-ups may be less frequent and focus on maintenance and prevention.
