How is it done?
A layer of topical numbing cream is first applied to the skin. This is followed by the passing of the laser over the tattoo. As the laser beam comes into contact with the tattoo, it breaks down the ink particles from the tattoo.
The body will then remove the particles over the next couple of days to weeks after the treatment. This repeated process results in lightening. The duration of treatment depends on the size of the tattoo. It usually takes only a few minutes.
Are there any side effects?
Tattoo removal by laser is a safe and effective day procedure. Possible side effects include blistering and scarring. Patients are able to return to their daily activities immediately after the procedure.
It is now possible to remove red or black tattoos with the use of the Q-Switch ND Yag laser machine.Β This can be any sort of tattoos, including designs on the skin or make up tattoos such as eyebrow or lip tattoos.
Depending on the depth and the intensity of the tattoo colour, multiple sessions are usually required to achieve lightening. Side effects are rare but include blistering and scarring.
What's more?
Most patients find that the tattoo removal procedure feels like rubber band snapping on the skin. The procedure is made more comfortable with numbing cream and ice.
For larger tattoos, oral medication is an option for further pain relief.
This depends on the density, depth and type of ink used. Most tattoos will require 6-10 treatment sessions or more for removal*.
Treatment sessions are spaced 2- 4 weeks apart*.
