Acne Scars Removals with Laser Treatments and More in Singapore
After weeks and in most cases, months of combatting acne vulgaris, the fresh acne lesions are finally history. What is left behind is acne scars which are characterized by uneven and pitted skin. Acne scars, if left untreated typically does not improve much on its own.
When acne first heals, it usually leaves post-inflammatory colour changes to the skin. This can either be in the form of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (brownish marks) or erythema (reddish marks). If left untreated, these unwanted colour pigmentations usually fade away naturally. To hasten the healing process, topical creams or a few sessions of laser treatments (Q-Switch ND Yag) will do the trick.
Uneven and pitted skin generally does not heal naturally with time and requires personalized regimes for the treatment of ‘pits’ and ‘dents’ which take many forms:
- Boxcar scars
- Rolling scars
- Atrophic scars
- Ice-pick scars
- Keloid scars
How do we treat acne scars
There are a variety of treatment methods for acne scars. Different types of acne scars require different types of treatment methods to achieve the best possible result.
In most instances, a single type of acne scar treatment may not be the most effective. Our Doctor uses a combination of different, specialised treatment modalities that will help in smoothening the skin texture and improve the appearance of scars.
Whether you’re looking for laser treatments or some other form of acne scars removal solutions in Singapore, we have you covered.
Edge Fractional CO2 Laser
One of the most common solutions is the use of acne scar laser treatments. Edge Fractional resurfacing laser is a scientifically-proven treatment method for acne scars. It is an ablative laser that ablates tiny pin-point areas of the skin surface in a grid-like pattern. The skin in between the treated areas acts as a reservoir of healthy tissue to promote rapid healing with minimal down time.
The Edge Fractional laser beam delivers deep columns of treatment into the skin. This causes a reaction that leads to collagen remodeling and regeneration. The healing process repairs scars, wrinkles and fine lines.
A topical numbing cream is first applied to the skin area that needs treatment. This makes the procedure more comfortable for you. Each Edge Fractional laser session takes approximately 10-15 minutes. A slight tingling sensation may be noted after the treatment and mild redness seen. Scabbing may occur after the second or third day and usually peels off in about five to seven days to reveal new, fresh skin.
The new skin that emerges after a week looks smoother, tighter, clearer and fresher. Results continue to improve over the span of three to six months and are much better after several sessions. A series of 5-10 Edge Fractional treatments a month apart can be done.
Subcision involves the physical separation of the underlying scar tissue with a needle. This disrupts the scar tissue under the skin and helps in remodeling of the scars. As some bleeding can occur with this treatment, temporary bruising and needle marks can be expected.
This treatment involves fractional radio frequency micro-needling that helps in reinvigorating the skin. The insulated micro-needles treat the targeted area through rapid penetration of the skin without causing extensive damage to the top layer. At the targeted depth within the skin, it emits a high-tensioned radio frequency pulse to stimulate the formation of new collagen. The procedure takes about 30 minutes. Mild redness of the skin will be noted for the 2-3 days after treatment.
Certain types of scars, such as ice pick scars, respond better to chemical peels. The chemical peel solution is able to better target these scars that are harder to reach compared to other treatment modalities. Chemical peels reconstruct the scars by causing a local inflammatory reaction, leading to the formation of new collagen fibres. This is usually associated with slight redness of the skin and some skin peeling for a few days.
For hypertrophic or keloid scars, steroid injections directly into the scar will help to flatten it. Depending on the severity of the scar, between one to four sessions may be required every 3-4 weeks.
Acne scar filler
As a quick fix, soft dermal fillers can be injected directly into the acne scars. This reduces the depth of the scar and makes it smoother. The action of injecting filler into the scar also acts like subcision, breaking up the scar tissue within the skin before depositing the acne scar filler.
At Lux Medical Aesthetic Clinic, we offer several treatments to help eradicate acne scars. Laser treatments, chemical peels, subcision or steroid injections, our Doctor will provide the best combination of acne scar treatments to maximise results.
