6 Common Causes of Adult Acne & Blemishes

Acne Scar Treatment isn’t exactly something you think you’ll need in your 30s and beyond. While acne is synonymous with teenage skin, it doesn’t necessarily stop when puberty does. Adults can get acne, too. And while it can be confusing as to why you’re experiencing it now, don’t worry. We have the answers.

From hormonal changes and stress, your diet and the way you care for your skin, there’s many reasons why you could be experiencing breakouts. Let’s go through a few of the most common, pimple-producing habits.

How to prevent acne flare ups.

Adult acne breakouts. No one wants them and, they’re downright embarrassing. So, here are a few things to consider.

1. Do you touch your face often?

Try not to constantly touch your skin, especially if you’re out in a public area. You’re spreading germs onto your face. Use headphones instead of having your phone resting on your cheek.

2. Eat a lot of dairy?

When you experience cystic breakouts (the deep, hard, red spots that seem to stay for weeks), it could be your skin telling you to cut back on dairy. When you eat too much of it, it makes it challenging for the skin’s excretion process.

3. Stressed?

Your adrenal gland, the organ that makes cortisol (the stress hormone), produces more of it to help out the body. A portion of testosterone travels with it, and for women, this can lead to greater oil production. That oil prompts the breakout. Eating sugar also boosts this oil-producing hormone. Stick to low-glycaemic foods such as complex carbs like whole grains.

4. Use good skincare products?

Don’t be tempted to use low quality acne creams that achieve nothing or lead to further issues. Be kind to your skin by using quality skincare products with natural ingredients.

5. Have hormonal issues?

Ladies, if it’s that time of the month, breakouts are to be expected. But if your hormones are out of balance, it could be why you’re seeing spots throughout the month. It’s best to get your levels checked.

6. Live in the city?

Air pollution leaves a layer of dirt, debris and grime on your face. Make sure you wash your face as soon as you get home. Really, really well. This goes back to #4 – the importance of having good skincare products that clean well, without damaging your skin.

The worst thing about pimples is the scar they usually leave behind. These hyperpigmentation marks can take years to fade and acne scars never will completely. Don’t use nasty, topical creams that agitate your skin. There are effective acne scar treatments available like laser acne scar removal.

We use the Edge Fractional Co2 resurfacing laser. It’s scientifically proven to reduce scars, using a laser beam that delivers deep, directed treatment into the skin. This causes a reaction that leads to collagen regeneration. The healing process repairs acne scars, wrinkles and fine lines.
