The Difference Between Btx and Fillers… And, What’s Best For Me?

Btx needs no introduction. Hollywood has done a great job at educating us. We immediately think of women in their 60’s, who look twenty years younger. And, oh, have the media cashed in on ‘Btx-gone-wrong’… splashing celebrities across magazine double-spreads, with “look at this” headlines.

But then, have you heard of dermal fillers?

This ageing treatment often gets paired with Btx but they are different. Dermal fillers are a group of injectable medical products designed to add volume to tissue. There are various options including hyaluronic acid, collagen-stimulating and even permanent fillers.

Fillers are injected into areas that require revitalising volume. Experts say the results can last up to 18 months (but it’s best to tailor an individual treatment plan, as it differs from person-to-person).

And Btx? It acts as a neurotoxin in the body, stopping to action of certain nerve types. For example, the small eye muscles, to reduce those squint wrinkles. Btx effects last between three to six months.

While Btx essentially freezes muscles to stop creases, fillers use hyaluronic acid (and similar substances) to fill tired, aged areas. The treated areas usually include forehead and furrow lines, crow’s feet, lip and smile lines, and ‘sleep’ wrinkles.

The dermal fillers treatment

At Lux Medical Aesthetic Clinic, This procedure takes between 20-30 minutes. It’s quick, safe, and effective. Prior to the treatment day, your specialist will determine the exact injection points (based on the outcome you envision).

On the day, the skin is cleaned, before a small syringe of dermal filler is injected into the specified areas. You won’t notice more than a slight pressure throughout the procedure.

And, is it safe?

Yes, dermal fillers are safe. And the procedure is quick – a treatment that can be completed on your lunch break.

Most patients don’t experience anything more serious than bruising, swelling and lumpiness. Hyaluronic acid, the substance we use, is FDA-approved and safely absorbed by the body. There are no negative side effects.

With dermal filers, you can expect a minimally invasive treatment targeting the signs of ageing, including:

  • Plumping up thin lips
  • Removing under-eye wrinkles and shadows
  • Filling in static wrinkles
  • Softening recessed scars.
